Individual Winner - Dr William Shepard
Dr William Shepard has been one of the regular participants at the interfaith activities in Christchurch. He has written three chapters in different books on religious diversity in New Zealand. He has been honest in his writing of the diversity of Muslims in NZ. He usually asks Muslims to cross check his writing which gives confidence to the community what he writes. Dr Shepard has also written a book on Islam that is used by students in New Zealand and beyond. At times of need, he has been very helpful to the community of Christchurch with his physical and intellectual inputs. He has been invited speaker at couple of FIANZ conferences (OIC 2002; Interfaith workshop in 2006). Federation acknowledges Dr Shepard's contribution to our community.

Since signing the MOU with FIANZ, NZ Police Ethnic division has been proactively engaging with Muslim community across the country. The team of led by Superintendent Wally Humaha and Inspector Rakesh, has been closely working with the community leaders across the country to ensure that in hour of need issues are dealt with religious and cultural sensitivities. Federation has recognised their assistance to communityMaori, Pacific and Ethnic Services Division New Zealand Police of Christchurch at the time of Earthquake, their willingness to resolve couple of serious issues at Auckland. Federation awards the Harmony Award to NZ Police not only for their excellent service to ethnic and Muslim community but in the manner they have provided support and assurance to the community.
